Design Notes

The 201TN tweeter has a lower resonance frequency, making the crossover design a non-complicated task. The tweeter is delivered as a “bare” tweeter and shall assembled with your own waveguide or to a baffle with integrated waveguide.
The best application is in tabletop studio monitors, prosumer products, bookshelf speakers, TV bars, micro line-arrays, etc.

Technical Summary

The 201TNX8-399 is a 0.8-inch neodymium aluminum dome tweeter rated at 10 W AES (20 W continuous) into a nominal 8-ohm load. Sensitivity is 86 dB (1 W/1 m). With a free-air resonance of 1,900 Hz and a 20.3 mm voice coil, this driver is delivered as a bare tweeter chassis without an integrated waveguide, intended for assembly into a customer-supplied waveguide or into a baffle with an integrally formed waveguide. The aluminum dome diaphragm provides higher stiffness than silk, extending the piston-mode operating range and contributing to the broad frequency response. The lower Fs compared to many aluminum dome tweeters of similar size simplifies passive crossover design by providing more margin between Fs and the crossover frequency.

The frequency response is usable from approximately 2,000 Hz, with a smooth plateau of 85-90 dB maintained from approximately 2 kHz to 16 kHz, followed by a gradual rolloff. The aluminum dome contributes to a slightly extended high-frequency response compared to silk designs of equivalent size. The impedance peak at Fs (1,900 Hz) is well-defined. Performance above 5 kHz is dependent on the waveguide geometry used in the final assembly.

The driver is rated for 10 W AES and is suited for moderate-power applications. A minimum crossover frequency of 2,000-2,500 Hz (12-18 dB/octave high-pass) is recommended. The 8-ohm nominal impedance is standard for passive crossover integration. Good to use with compact woofers such as 5FRX8-465A, 61FHMX4-381, or similar 5-6-inch mid-woofers in 2-way column, compact PA, or prosumer monitor designs where the system designer will provide the waveguide geometry.

The 201TNX8-399 is suited for column speaker arrays, TV soundbars, compact 2-way PA tops, tabletop studio monitors, and micro line-array systems where the tweeter is integrated into a custom or proprietary waveguide. The bare tweeter format gives system designers full flexibility over directivity and loading characteristics.
