The 180FCD compression driver is a very high performance high frequency device ideal for professional loudspeaker systems. The driver’s dome is carefully attached to based magnetic circuit provides a robust, high force BL field, providing precision control of the Polyimide diaphragm assembly.

The dome is assembled to a high temperature Nomex voice coil former that withstands the long term power characteristics typically seen in professional applications. The acoustic output exits through a bullet phase plug and a 1.0 inch throat aperture. Nominal sensitivity is 108.5 dB 1watt / 1 meter.

REDCATT unique and precise adhesives dispensing, combined with our in-house developed dome treatments are further improving the long term reliability of this product.

The 180FCDX8-044 is a 1.8-inch ferrite compression driver rated at 40 W AES (80 W continuous) into a nominal 8-ohm load. Sensitivity is 109 dB (1 W/1 m). With a free-air resonance of 2,000 Hz, a 45.7 mm voice coil, and a 28.5 mm horn exit, this driver is differentiated from other 1.8-inch drivers by its higher Fs and FEM-optimized magnetic structure, resulting in extended high-frequency response at the cost of a higher minimum crossover frequency. The FEM-optimized ferrite motor targets uniform flux density across the voice coil gap, reducing harmonic distortion and improving transient accuracy across the passband.

The frequency response is usable from approximately 1,000 Hz with horn loading, rising to a broad plateau of 107-111 dB from approximately 1.5 kHz to 16 kHz with excellent high-frequency extension. The higher Fs (2,000 Hz) requires a minimum crossover frequency of approximately 2,000 Hz to maintain adequate excursion protection and voice coil stability. The extended high-frequency response compared to standard 1.8-inch designs suits long-throw horn applications where HF ceiling matters.

The driver is rated for 40 W AES and is suited for 2-way PA tops requiring extended HF response. A crossover frequency of 2,000-2,500 Hz (18-24 dB/octave high-pass) is recommended. The 28.5 mm exit is compatible with standard 1.4-inch and 1.8-inch family horns. Good to use with 15-inch professional woofers such as 15FPMX8-063, 15FINDX8-035, or 15NPWX8-016 in 2-way PA top designs where extended high-frequency response from the compression driver is a priority.

The 180FCDX8-044 is suited for 2-way PA top cabinets, portable column PA systems, and commercial installation products where extended high-frequency response, FEM-optimized motor, and 109 dB sensitivity in the 1.8-inch ferrite format are the primary design criteria.
