Design Notes
The 18FIND is a high efficiency, (97 dB 1watt / 1 meter) 18-inch woofer with incredibly linear frequency response characteristics, high power handling capability while generating low harmonic distortion artifacts. The 18FIND uses a lightweight glass fiber loaded cone assembly along with a high excursion triple roll constant geometry surround. This combination provides remarkable strength, high efficiency and a peak to peak maximum excursion of 30mm.
Power Handling
At the core of the 18FIND is it’s voice coil technology featuring a composite Polyimide former material capable of withstanding peak temperatures in excess of 250C, well beyond the thermal requirements of modern professional audio systems.
REDCATT has implemented a silicone spider design to ensure long term shape memory, consistency and diminish anomalies associated with spider deterioration.

Technical Summary
The 18FINDX8-310B is an 18-inch professional ferrite woofer designed for high-SPL touring PA, installed sound reinforcement, and cinema LF applications where low harmonic distortion at large cone excursion, deep bass extension, and broad two-way system compatibility are the primary design requirements. The driver uses a 101.6 mm copper voice coil wound on a Polyimide former rated to 250°C, delivering 1000 W AES and 2000 W continuous at 8 ohms. The motor system is designed around a wide magnetic field geometry — the -310B's defining engineering characteristic — in which the magnetic gap is dimensioned to maintain a more uniform Bl product across the full Xmax travel of 5.85 mm. This wide-field approach produces measurably lower BL(x) nonlinearity at large excursion compared to shorter-gap designs of similar peak Bl, resulting in reduced second and third harmonic distortion at sustained programme levels. The resulting Bl of 21.3 T·m at Qts=0.46 represents a deliberate optimization toward linearity rather than maximum motor force. The voice coil inductance of Le=1.40 mH is the lowest in the 18FIND product family, with an inductive rolloff onset at approximately 580 Hz — the best native HF bandwidth of the three variants — making the -310B directly compatible with standard two-way crossover designs at 800 Hz to 1.5 kHz without Le compensation or modified crossover topology. The silicone-impregnated Nomex spider ensures long-term Fs consistency, and the optimized aluminum basket venting reduces thermal resistance for sustained high-power operation.
The 18FINDX8-310B is optimized for vented (bass reflex) enclosures across a 90 to 200 litre net internal volume range, with tuning frequencies from 36 to 52 Hz. The driver's peak displacement Vd of 706.1 cm³ (Sd=1207 cm² × Xmax=5.85 mm) requires a minimum port aperture of 125 mm round or 250×80 mm slot; a standard 100 mm round port produces velocities exceeding 25 m/s at all alignments and must not be used. The compact 90 L alignment at 52 Hz tuning delivers -3 dB at approximately 50 Hz for compact touring cabinets and line array bass modules, with a 125 mm round port of 150 mm (18.8 m/s) or a 250×80 mm slot of 245 mm (11.5 m/s). The recommended 140 L standard alignment at 44 Hz extends the -3 dB point to approximately 42 Hz, covering bass guitar open E and the complete sub-bass programme range from a standard professional two-way 18-inch enclosure; slot port velocity of 9.8 m/s is comfortably within theatre and installation limits. The extended 200 L alignment at 36 Hz reaches -3 dB at approximately 34 Hz — at the driver's natural Fs — for cinema LF, large-venue installed systems, and applications requiring reproduction of bass guitar low B (31 Hz) and sub-bass cinema LFE content at high continuous SPL; slot port velocity of 8.0 m/s is effectively inaudible in the most acoustically demanding installation environments. The wider enclosure volumes required by the -310B relative to the -036 reflect its higher Qts=0.46, and correspond to the larger Vas=221 L that results from the wide-field motor geometry's compliance optimization.
The 18FINDX8-310B requires professional high-power amplification of 1000–2000 W into 8 ohms with DSP signal management mandatory for all alignments. A 24 dB/octave high-pass filter at 40, 33, or 26 Hz depending on alignment is required to prevent excursion overshoot below the vented tuning frequency; displacement-limiting DSP is recommended for all sustained full-programme operation. The operating bandwidth is approximately 34 Hz to 1.5 kHz; a 24 dB/octave low-pass crossover to a compression driver at 800 Hz–1.5 kHz is appropriate for standard two-way integration, with no additional Le compensation needed.
The 18FINDX8-310B is suited for: two-way touring PA enclosures in standard and large formats where reduced harmonic distortion at high programme levels is valued alongside high SPL capability; installed main LF speakers for theatres, cinema, houses of worship, stadia, and large outdoor venues requiring extended bass reproduction with low distortion at sustained power; high-fidelity and critical listening PA systems where the -310B's wide-field BL(x) linearity produces a perceptibly cleaner bass character compared to shorter-gap designs; and festival and outdoor event main bass cabinets in standard and extended LF configurations. Within the REDCATT 18-inch ferrite woofer family, the -310B is the appropriate selection when low distortion at Xmax, deep bass extension to 34 Hz, and unconstrained two-way system integration are the primary performance priorities, with the -036 preferred for higher sensitivity and smaller enclosure requirements, and the 182FIND for maximum motor force in 3-way topologies.

18FIND FAMILY — THREE-VARIANT COMPARISON:
The 18FIND product name covers three mechanically distinct drivers.
All share the 18-inch basket, 101.6mm (4-inch) voice coil, Polyimide
former, silicone Nomex spider, and 1000W AES power rating. Each is
tuned for a different balance of motor force, linearity, and frequency
extension:

The -310B is optimized for maximum BL(x) linearity ("Very wide B field"):
the magnetic gap geometry is designed to maintain a more uniform flux
density across the full Xmax excursion range, reducing harmonic distortion
at large cone displacement even though the peak Bl figure is lower than
the other variants. This makes the -310B the preferred choice for
high-fidelity and critical listening applications where distortion at
programme levels is a priority alongside high output. The lowest Le in
the family (1.40mH, rolloff onset ~580Hz) also provides the best native
high-frequency response, with clean integration in two-way designs at
crossover frequencies up to 1.5kHz.
ENCLOSURE TYPE RATIONALE:
Qts=0.46 is within the vented design region for an 18-inch professional
woofer. Vented (bass reflex) enclosures are the recommended alignment.
The -310B's higher Qts than the -036 and 182FIND variants requires
somewhat larger enclosures for equivalent tuning — the standard alignment
moves from 130L to 140L and the extended from 180L to 200L — while Fs
of 34Hz provides useful natural extension down to approximately 34Hz in
the largest alignment.
DISPLACEMENT:
Vd = Sd × Xmax = 1207 cm² × 0.585 cm = 706.1 cm³ (peak, one-way)
PORT SIZING NOTE:
Vd=706.1cm³ requires a minimum port aperture of 125mm round or
250×80mm slot. A 100mm round port produces velocities exceeding
25 m/s at all alignments — do not use.
INDUCTANCE NOTE:
Le=1.40mH → inductance rolloff onset at approximately 580Hz.
Standard two-way integration at 800Hz–1.5kHz crossover to a
compression driver is fully compatible — no Le compensation required.
This is the best native HF bandwidth of the three 18FIND variants.
VENTED (BASS REFLEX) ALIGNMENTS
Ports: 125mm diameter round tube (Ap=1.227×10⁻² m²)
OR 250×80mm slot port (Ap=2.000×10⁻² m²)
DO NOT use 100mm round port — velocity exceeds limits at all alignments.
Port velocity limit (pro PA / touring): ≤22 m/s
Port velocity limit (install / theatre): ≤17 m/s
ALIGNMENT A — COMPACT TOURING (90 L net internal)
Box volume: 90 L (net internal)
Tuning freq (Fb): 52 Hz
125mm round port: 150mm long
Port velocity: 18.8 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
Slot port (250×80mm): 245mm long
Port velocity: 11.5 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
System f-3dB: ~50 Hz
HP filter: 40 Hz, 24 dB/oct DSP (mandatory)
Max SPL (1000W, 1m): ~126 dB
Application: Compact two-way touring PA cabinet, line array
bass module, high-SPL club bass enclosure,
festival and outdoor event woofer.
Notes: Maximum output from the most compact practical enclosure.
At 50Hz -3dB the driver covers the full bass programme range
including bass guitar, kick drum, and sub-bass at high acoustic
output. The 125mm port velocity of 18.8m/s is within touring
PA limits; for installation the 250×80mm slot at 11.5m/s is
preferred to remain within the 17m/s limit. The 90L cabinet
at approximately 590×560×330mm external is consistent with
compact 18" PA formats. The 150mm port is moderately longer
than the -036 compact alignment (134mm), reflecting the -310B's
higher Qts requiring more port length at the same box volume
and similar tuning.
ALIGNMENT B — STANDARD PA (140 L net internal)
Box volume: 140 L (net internal)
Tuning freq (Fb): 44 Hz
125mm round port: 135mm long
Port velocity: 15.9 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
Slot port (250×80mm): 220mm long
Port velocity: 9.8 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
System f-3dB: ~42 Hz
HP filter: 33 Hz, 24 dB/oct DSP (mandatory)
Max SPL (1000W, 1m): ~126 dB
Application: Standard two-way touring and installation bass
cabinet, installed main LF in theatre, HoW,
stadium, outdoor arena; flyable 18" enclosure.
Notes: The recommended general-purpose alignment. At 42Hz -3dB
the system resolves bass guitar open E (41Hz) at full acoustic
output, covering the complete bass programme bandwidth. Both
port options are within installation velocity limits. The
140L cabinet at approximately 650×620×375mm external is a
standard professional 18" two-way format. The wide B field
geometry of the -310B produces measurably lower harmonic
distortion at sustained high programme levels in this alignment
compared to shorter-gap designs — an audible advantage in
demanding full-power music reproduction and cinema environments.
ALIGNMENT C — EXTENDED LF (200 L net internal)
Box volume: 200 L (net internal)
Tuning freq (Fb): 36 Hz
125mm round port: 141mm long
Port velocity: 13.0 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
Slot port (250×80mm): 230mm long
Port velocity: 8.0 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
System f-3dB: ~34 Hz
HP filter: 26 Hz, 24 dB/oct DSP (mandatory)
Max SPL (1000W, 1m): ~126 dB
Application: Extended bass installation woofer, cinema main LF,
large-venue installed main speaker, 3-way or 2.5-way
system bass section for programme reproduction to
below 35Hz.
Notes: The deepest alignment. At 34Hz -3dB — close to the driver's
natural Fs of 34Hz — the system reproduces bass guitar low B
(31Hz), sub-bass cinema LFE content, and the lowest audible
fundamentals of orchestral and electronic bass instruments.
The 200L enclosure at approximately 710×670×500mm external
is at the upper limit of a flyable 18" bass cabinet; it is
more naturally suited to fixed installation. Internal cross-
bracing and damping treatment are required at this volume.
Slot port velocity of 8.0m/s is very low — appropriate for
theatre, cinema, and critical installation environments where
port turbulence noise must be entirely absent. The -310B's
wide-field motor geometry contributes particularly in this
alignment, where programme content at 34–45Hz exercises the
cone near Xmax at continuous high power.
