Design Notes
The 81FIND is a high efficiency, (95 dB 1watt / 1 meter) 8-inch woofer with linear frequency response characteristics, good power handling capability while generating low harmonic distortion artifacts. The 81FIND uses a lightweight glass-fiber loaded cone assembly along with a high excursion M-roll surround. This combination provides a lightweight, yet strong, piston.
Magnetic Circuit
Ferrite based magnetic circuit, capable of delivering the good level of performance, providing a consistent, high integrity magnetic flux gap, low distortion characteristic and high-efficiency cooling system. The metal parts are extensively coated to provide the maximum weather protection.
This driver has been chosen by many audio engineers for smaller sized, or portable audio products. It has proven its capability over and over again all around the world, many times in challenging applications or environments. 81FIND is proven design that delivers good balance between performance and cost.

Technical Summary
The 81FINDX8-290 is an 8-inch ferrite mid-woofer designed for professional portable and installation loudspeaker systems requiring reliable performance across the 70-3000 Hz operating range. With a sensitivity of 95 dB (1W/1m), a 2-inch CCAW voice coil on a glass fiber former, and a glass-fiber loaded paper cone with M-roll fabric surround, the driver provides a balanced combination of efficiency, power handling, and extended frequency response. The motor-suspension design (Qts 0.5) provides good cone control while maintaining usable output across its operating bandwidth, making it well-suited to compact vented enclosures.
The driver is rated for approximately 200 W AES / 400 W continuous power handling and is intended for use with DSP-controlled amplification. A high-pass filter in the range of 64-84 Hz (24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley) is recommended depending on enclosure tuning, along with appropriate limiting to manage thermal and mechanical stress during sustained operation. Typical crossover to a high-frequency driver is in the 1.5-3 kHz region depending on system architecture.
This driver is particularly effective in compact 2-way portable loudspeakers, small-format installation systems, and cost-effective product lines for touring, rental, and fixed-install applications. The weather-coated ferrite motor assembly and proven construction provide long-term reliability in demanding environments, and the balanced cost-to-performance ratio makes it an established choice for engineers designing competitively priced professional audio products.

Recommended enclosure volumes are simulated results. For best enclosure volumes and tuning, we recommend secondary simulation and careful evaluation. Several rounds of samples and fine-tuning may be required for optimal results.
Enclosure Recommendations
Recommended enclosure alignments (bass reflex): - 6 liters tuned to 92 Hz: high output, strong mid-bass, reduced excursion; -3 dB approx. 85 Hz, HP filter 84 Hz - 8 liters tuned to 84 Hz: balanced response, general-purpose (recommended); -3 dB approx. 77 Hz, HP filter 74 Hz - 8 liters tuned to 76 Hz: extended low-frequency, requires HP filter protection; -3 dB approx. 65 Hz, HP filter 64 Hz
