Technical Summary
The 122NPWX8-102 is a 12-inch professional woofer designed for high-SPL PA, touring, and fixed installation systems operating across the 40–2000 Hz bandwidth. With a measured sensitivity of 96.88 dB (1 W/1 m) and a 101.6 mm (4-inch) copper voice coil wound on a composite Polyimide former rated to withstand peak temperatures in excess of 350°C, the driver delivers exceptional acoustic output per watt across continuous programme material without thermal compression. The Neodymium motor system produces a Bl of 27 T·m at a Qts of 0.17, placing it in the extreme-motor-force category of professional woofer design. This combination of high motor strength, high sensitivity, and superior thermal management makes the 122NPW a direct competitor to the most demanding 12-inch PA woofer applications in touring, theatre, and high-SPL installation markets. The carbon fiber loaded paper cone assembly is extensively treated for humidity and environmental resistance, and the double silicone sealed Nomex spider provides additional protection against contaminants in field and permanent-installation environments.
The driver is optimized for vented (bass reflex) enclosures across a 35 to 70 litre net internal volume range, with tuning frequencies from 48 to 70 Hz depending on system application. The compact 35 L alignment, tuned to 70 Hz, produces -3 dB at approximately 68 Hz with maximum sensitivity and cone control in the critical midbass region — the appropriate choice for high-SPL compact touring cabinets, column array woofer sections, and club fill speakers where output and compactness take priority. The balanced 50 L alignment at 58 Hz tuning extends the -3 dB point to approximately 56 Hz, covering the complete programme frequency range including bass guitar, kick drum, and piano left hand from a standard professional two-way enclosure format. The extended 70 L alignment at 48 Hz tuning provides -3 dB at approximately 46 Hz, with full coverage of the bass guitar open E fundamental at 41 Hz, appropriate for cinema main LF, installed music systems, and two-way theatre cabinets where extended low-frequency reproduction is required. Both 100 mm round and 200 × 60 mm slot port options are provided for each alignment; slot ports are recommended for touring cabinetry and high-SPL installations due to lower velocity and reduced turbulence.
The 122NPWX8-102 requires high-power professional amplification in the 800–1600 W range into 8 ohms, with DSP-controlled signal management mandatory for all alignments. A 24 dB/octave high-pass filter is required at 55, 40, or 35 Hz depending on alignment tuning, as the vented enclosure rapidly unloads the cone below the tuning frequency and the Qts=0.17 motor provides no passive self-limiting below resonance. Displacement-limiting and power-limiting algorithms should be included in any DSP preset for this driver. The operating bandwidth is approximately 40 Hz to 2 kHz; low-pass crossover to a compression driver or mid-high section at 1.0–1.5 kHz with a 24 dB/octave slope is standard for two-way system designs using the 122NPW as the LF component.
The 122NPWX8-102 is suited for: compact and mid-size touring PA enclosures requiring maximum SPL from a 12-inch footprint; two-way professional speaker systems for live sound reinforcement, houses of worship, theatre, and stadium installation; line array bass extension and mid-bass column modules; club and venue main speaker systems operating at continuous high power levels; and cinema LF speaker assemblies where programme-consistent output, thermal durability, and motor linearity across the operating band are required. Its 96.88 dB sensitivity, 800 W AES power handling, and Neodymium motor with Polyimide former represent the specification combination typical of reference-class professional 12-inch woofer designs for mid-to-large-scale sound reinforcement applications.

Cone: carbon fiber loaded paper, environmentally treated
Spider: double silicone sealed Nomex
Surround: fabric triple roll constant geometry
Depth: 154mm | Baffle cutout: 287mm | Neodymium motor
ENCLOSURE TYPE RATIONALE:
Qts=0.17 is among the lowest values in professional woofer design.
With Bl=27T·m and a 101.6mm voice coil, the 122NPW is driven by one
of the strongest motors relative to moving mass (Bl²/Mms=8.90) for a
12-inch driver. This extreme motor force generates very high electrical
damping that completely dominates the system Q in any practical enclosure.
VENTED (bass reflex) enclosures are the only suitable alignment — a
sealed enclosure would produce an overdamped response with no low-bass
output and progressive excursion build-up well above Fs. All three
alignments below are optimized for professional PA and installation use,
where output efficiency, headroom above the tuning frequency, and
mechanical protection below tuning are the primary design goals.
DISPLACEMENT:
Vd = Sd × Xmax = 551 cm² × 0.575 cm = 316.8 cm³ (peak, one-way)
WEATHERIZATION:
The carbon fiber loaded paper cone is extensively treated against moisture
and humidity. Metal basket components are coated for environmental
protection. The double silicone sealed spider provides additional barrier
against contaminants. The 122NPW is suitable for permanently installed
indoor and semi-outdoor applications; it is not rated for direct rain
exposure without additional enclosure sealing measures.
VENTED (BASS REFLEX) ALIGNMENTS
Ports: 100mm diameter round tube (Ap=7.854×10⁻³ m²)
OR 200×60mm slot port (Ap=1.200×10⁻² m²)
Port velocity limit (pro PA): ≤22 m/s
Port velocity limit (install/theatre): ≤17 m/s
ALIGNMENT A — COMPACT TOURING (35 L net internal)
Box volume: 35 L (net internal)
Tuning freq (Fb): 70 Hz
Round port: 100mm dia × 136mm long
Port velocity: 17.7 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
Slot port: 200×60mm × 209mm long
Port velocity: 11.6 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
System f-3dB: ~68 Hz
HP filter: 55 Hz, 24 dB/oct DSP (mandatory)
Max SPL (800W, 1m): ~126 dB
Application: Compact touring PA, line array bass extension module,
column array woofer section, club fill speaker,
high-SPL stage monitor.
Notes: The highest-SPL compact alignment. Fb=70Hz (2.0×Fs) places the
tuning well into the midbass region, providing maximum cone
control and output in the 70–2000Hz working band with very
low excursion at operating level. The 35 L net cabinet can be
packaged in a compact trapezoidal or rectangular touring enclosure
of approximately 400×400×250mm (external). With Qts=0.17, cone
excursion below Fb drops rapidly — the HP filter at 55Hz is
critical to prevent over-excursion below tuning at high power.
The slot port (209mm) is recommended for touring cabinetry for
its structural contribution and resistance to port whistling.
ALIGNMENT B — STANDARD PA (50 L net internal)
Box volume: 50 L (net internal)
Tuning freq (Fb): 58 Hz
Round port: 100mm dia × 139mm long
Port velocity: 14.7 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
Slot port: 200×60mm × 213mm long
Port velocity: 9.6 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
System f-3dB: ~56 Hz
HP filter: 40 Hz, 24 dB/oct DSP (mandatory)
Max SPL (800W, 1m): ~126 dB
Application: Full-range PA top cabinet, two-way touring speaker,
installation LF driver, mid-bass horn-loaded cabinet,
installed main speaker for theatres and houses of worship.
Notes: The recommended all-purpose alignment. At 56 Hz -3dB the driver
covers the complete music programme from bass guitar (41Hz E2) through
upper vocals and strings. The 50 L cabinet is compatible with standard
professional two-way enclosure formats at approximately 450×450×280mm
external. Port velocities are well within install and PA limits on both
round and slot configurations. Bl=27T·m and 96.88dB sensitivity allow
the 122NPW to maintain consistent output under continuous programme at
800W without thermal compression from the Polyimide former.
ALIGNMENT C — EXTENDED LF (70 L net internal)
Box volume: 70 L (net internal)
Tuning freq (Fb): 48 Hz
Round port: 100mm dia × 145mm long
Port velocity: 12.2 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
Slot port: 200×60mm × 222mm long
Port velocity: 8.0 m/s (peak, at Xmax)
System f-3dB: ~46 Hz
HP filter: 35 Hz, 24 dB/oct DSP (mandatory)
Max SPL (800W, 1m): ~126 dB
Application: Two-way bass/woofer cabinet with extended LF,
cinema main speaker LF section, installed hi-SPL
music system, large theatre or arena fill.
Notes: The largest practical standalone enclosure for the 122NPW.
At 46 Hz -3dB, the system reproduces the fundamental of bass
guitar open E (41Hz), floor tom (40–50Hz), and double bass
resonance in music reproduction and cinema applications. The
70 L cabinet at approximately 500×450×360mm external is the
upper limit recommended without structural bracing and damping
treatment to control panel resonance. Port velocity is low at
both port types; slot ports with flared ends are preferred for
this alignment to reduce turbulence at low Fb excursion peaks.
The 48 Hz tuning with DSP HP at 35 Hz provides meaningful
bass extension while maintaining appropriate mechanical protection
for the large Xmech=19.75mm capability of this driver.
